Брест-Литовский мирный договор: история переговоров и экономические последствия

The Peace Treaty of Brest-Litovsk: History of negotiations and economic consequences

Roman Balabin

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: The Peace Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was a separate peace treaty signed on March 3, 1918, in the city of Brest-Litovsk by representatives of Soviet Russia and the Central Powers. It ensured the withdrawal of the RSFSR from the First World War – but it failed to prevent the outbreak of the Russian Civil War. The Treaty of Brest-Litovsk was annulled by the decision of the Soviet All-Russian Central Executive Committee on November 13, 1918, against the backdrop of revolutionary events in Germany. Despite its short life, the second peace agreement of the Great War has received wide coverage in world historiography. The first part of this monograph provides references to more than three hundred books and articles on the topic. Among other things, the Brest agreement was used as direct evidence of the annexation plans of the German Empire and its allies. The second part of this book provides information on a number of significant episodes of the Russian Civil War, including the “Tsaritsyn conflict” and the Tambov Uprising. The third part of the book is devoted to the analysis of key printed works on the economic and political history of war communism. This book is the second part of the series “Economics and Politics at the Beginning of the 20th Century”. It will be of interest to both specialists and a wide range of readers interested in military, diplomatic and economic history, as well as the history of Russia at the beginning of the 20th century.
