MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany
Abstract:
Two editions of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics have so far been published: the first edition in 1987 in four volumes, and the second edition in 2008 in eight volumes. In the book A Study of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics (2012), thirty-nine reviews of the first edition of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics were examined, with most of the reviews being reflected. To provide a relatively comprehensive overview of the reviews, seventeen additional reviews are presented in this article. Following the same approach as the book A Study of The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics (2012), the reviews in this article are also classified into three categories: survey articles (general or thematic), evaluation articles (coverage–technical), and methodological review articles (bias). In the survey articles, eight reviews are included, offering either a general overview or an examination of a particular topic within The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics. In the evaluation articles, six reviews are presented, focusing on shortcomings in the coverage of entries or on the excessive technicality of the dictionary. In the methodological critique articles (bias), three reviews are included, addressing methodological concerns with The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics and its biases.
