Abstract:
This article analyses the role of the new technologies in the competitiveness of Spanish industry. We exclude the energy factor and focus our attention on the impact of the ICT capital services (hardware, software and telecommunications)on the productivity of the manufacturing sectors, as well as their contribution to the rise in productivity of the Spanish economy as a whole. We conclude that penetration of the ICTs is still limited and lower in the manufacturing industry than in the services, so it is not surprising that their beneficial fruits are not yet visible.
