Abstract:
The article describes the trend of inequality in personal income distribution over the period 1973-2001 from the microdata of the Household Budget Survey produced by the Office for National Statistics (INE). It starts off by examining the Spanish situation and after confirming increased inequality in the last ten years, it compares the Spanish experience with that of other countries. The profiles followed by the autonomous communities are analysed in the second part. The article concludes by posing the question of whether geographic location is a decisive factor in explaining the inequality observed.
