Abstract: Introduction and Objective: This paper present an evaluation of the health system's reform initiated during the period of the former President Ricardo Lagos (Law 19.996).In this paper we assess the probability that a given patient selects the system AUGE GES, (thatmainly consists on a guarantee offered by the State of Chile on the access, the quality, the opportunity and the financial protection of a number of pathologies) in order to receive treatment for any of the pathologies typified in the system.The information was obtained from two important private health services entities. Methods: Two Multichanged Statistical Models were used to determine the effect of the different variables on the final decision to accept or reject the attention under AUGE GES. Results: The pathologies of high cost, such as oncologic treatments, exhibit a greater probability of being provided through the AUGE GES health network. On the contrary, primary care services, including respiratory disorders have a lower likelihood of being treated via the AUGE GES, since those services have a relatively lower economic impact. Likewise, it was observed that patients from a lower socio-economic status exhibit a higher demand of AUGE health services. This fact was identified by using the Human Development Index (HDI). Conclusions: As far as public health is concerned, this methodology may be useful to identify the characterisitics of those patients voluntarily accepting or refusing the health care coverage from the AUGE GES.
