Global direction of EU common commercial policy at the beginning of the new century

Abstract: The dissertation examines the development of the global direction of the EU Common commercial policy (CCP) in the period 2000-2009. The prerequisites for the global direction becoming a leading one are identified – economic globalization, accelerated development of the global trade, the new role of the EU in the global economy. The legal and institutional framework of the CCP is studied. There is a focus on the tasks in the traditional fields of the trade policy – liberalization of trade in commodities, removing obstacles for the movement of services, defending intellectual property rights, straggle against unfair competition, removing technical barriers, regulation of investment measures related to trade. Some new tasks connected with the global sustainable development are also analyzed. Internal and external instruments of global impact through the generalized system of preferences and through the World Trade Organization arbitration court are studied. The impact of the CCP on Bulgaria’s external trade is also examined and recommendations are made for better use of the available positive factors in this field.
