Investigating the relationship between physical characteristics and operating costs of Roman Catholic churches

M.M.E. Franssen and Marga Peeters

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: This Master thesis investigates the relation between physical characteristics and operating costs of Roman Catholic churches in the Netherlands. We describe and analyse the actual data of a cross sample of the expenditures and revenues accounts and inventory lists of 62 churches in 1984. We further apply the econometric techniques of multivariate regressions, factor analyses, cluster analyses and 2-Stage-Least-Squares to explore and explain the total operation costs. Finally, from the 2-SLS regression results of the sub-costs the conclusion is drawn that a number of relevant explanatory variables is missing. The relationship between the operating costs and the available set of physical characteristics of the churches in 1984 is not significant.
