Federalism and regionalism in transition countries: A survey

Abstract: The paper provides a brief survey of the key contributions to the studies of the federalism and regionalism in transition states, specifically the countries of the Central and Eastern Europe and the Former Soviet Union. It covers the dynamics of the Russian federalism and decentralization in other post-Soviet states. Furthermore, it looks at the evolution of the regional economic integration in the former Soviet Union, as well as briefly discusses the regional integration arrangements of the transition countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
