Payment of mobile value-added services

Abstract:
The availability of appropriate payment functionality is an important condition for business profit of mobile commerce supply in B2C context. Value-added services are the most important subset of B2C mobile commerce and consist of a combination of content and data transfer. The payment occurs via bill of telecommunication services by the mobile network operator (MNO). If the content is not provided by the MNO but by a third party (content provider) a revenue sharing is necessary. There are three main billing models: sponsoring, premium fee charging and fixed price charging. The result of this article are a distinction between mobile billing and mobile payment, an overview of the general conditions on their intersection and an overview of the current and future billing models for value-added services.
