MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: The economic liberalization and globalization process, started in the 1990s, brought a strong impact on the Brazilian economy. Between 1988 and 1993, an extensive process of liberalization was held, gradually reducing the degree of protection of local industry and changing the relations of production between sectors. In this context, it intensifies the restructuring process in the production of the agricultural sector leading to changes in the characteristics of employed persons. Thus, using microdata from the Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (PNAD), this paper analyzes the characteristics of the agricultural sector regarding employment in this sector during the nineties. Some of the results indicate that, although there was fall in total employment, it was noted an increase in the participation of both the employees or the auxiliary services and a decrease in the activities directly related to agriculture.
