Abstract:
This study employs the Johansen cointegration and Granger causality to analyze the relation-ship between air pollution and economic growth in China. It allows to draw lessons and de-rive implications for the causal links between these two variables. The results show that these two variables are cointegrated and that 15% threshold, there is a unidirectional causal rela-tionship between them. On the other hand, there is a positive long-term relationship between economic growth and air pollution. In other words, the idea of an environmental Kuznets curve fails to apply to China. These results suggest recommendations that can help the Chi-nese authorities in environmental management in order to lay the foundations for sustainable growth.
