From the museum to the amusement park: opportunities and risks of edutainment

Abstract: This article explores the concept of edutainment, i.e. the tendency of museums to be more fun and interactive for their visitors, especially the younger ones. This article also explores the merchandisation of culture and the entry of commercial brands in museums and analyses the chances and pitfalls of edutainment, from a theoretical as well as a managerial point of view, through interviews of curators in Switzerland, France and Canada. This articles ends by offering reflexions for new tracks of research
