Economic profile of Eje Cafetero. An analysis towards territorial competitiveness

Abstract: The literature on the economy of Eje Cafetero is not vast and it has lacked, so far, of rigorous theoretical foundations. This paper aims to take a first step in responding to these shortcomings, providing a global view of the economic conditions of the region. Taking as reference the concept of circular flow and the interdependence of the various productive sectors, we explore the general characteristics of the markets for goods and services, capital and labor, trying to identify the profile of the Eje Cafetero economies and their competitiveness. For this, moreover, they are considered the characteristics of the foreign market and the institutional framework.
