The Euro - a Project without Future? Calling for European Solidarity and Tolerance

Abstract: The Eurocrisis challenges our definition of a common future in Europe. As first step, this article describes a vision of a future Europe without the Euro as state of political and economic marginalisation. I am contrasting this vision by demanding European values and civic duties that make the common currency Euro sustainable: solidarity among Europeans and intercultural tolerance. ***************************************************** Die Eurokrise stellt uns vor die Herausforderung, unsere gemeinsame Zukunft in Europa neu zu verorten. Zuerst beschreibt dieser Artikel eine Zukunftsvision eines Europas ohne Euro als Zustand von politischer und wirtschaftlicher Bedeutungslosigkeit. Dagegen stelle ich europäische Werte und Bürgerpflichten, ohne die der Euro als Gemeinschaftswährung nicht bestehen können wird: europäische Solidarität und interkulturelle Toleranz.
