Abstract:
Annotated presentation made at the conference “Hacia una Mayor Competitividad e Integración de América Latina y el Caribe: la contribución de la banca de desarrollo”,on the occasion of the ALIDE Annual Meeting, Asunción, Paraguay, 19-20 May 2011. The paper describes first how regional markets have weathered the recent global financial storm. It then shows up why regulatory reform is important for all financial markets, including in regions that were less affected by the financial crisis. Finally, the paper describes some of the challenges of implementing Basel III in the region.
