Economics of Energy Futures Markets

Charles Dale

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: The development of a successful futures market in crude oil, petroleum products, propane, and, most recently, natural gas has been one of the most fundamental changes to occur in oil and gas markets in recent years. This article provides an introduction to those markets, including their historical background and examples of their current use for speculation and hedging.
