Tongam Sihol Nababan

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: To overcome the socio-economic reality that harm society, the church needs to have a sensitivity and a strong commitment to encourage cooperation between the elements of the government, market forces, community institutions to empower people, especially poor and marginalized communities. The church should be called to involve themselves actively in the process of socio-economic empowerment of the people with the vision to build the congregation self-help. Groups of the poor need to be raised and empowered to pursue their own well-being through the efforts of small and micro economy based on community economy. Therefore, the church should really give primary attention to the poor people through the real operational programs and can stimulate productive economic activity at the level of the congregation as well as in fostering the entrepreneurial spirit. One manifestation of the Church's duty to empower community-based economy is revitalizing its role to be more focused on the optimization of community economic institutions, particularly in terms of financing.
