IDESE: an analysis of the index of socioeconomic development of Rio Grande do Sul

Abstract: This paper presents a critical analysis of the Index of Socioeconomic Development of Rio Grande do Sul (Idese), identifying the distortions and inconsistencies of this index, analyzing each of the variables that make up its four blocks: Education, Income, and Household Sanitation, and Health. Also makes some suggestions that may assist in the review of Idese. The ultimate goal of this work is to contribute to the achievement of an index more efficient and effective, in order to more accurately measure the level of socio-economic development of the municipalities of Rio Grande do Sul, to developing and implementing appropriate public policies.
