Abstract:
This article, using input-output tables, makes an analysis of the structure of production, consumption, and income distribution in the Brazilian economy in 1975 and 1980. The results show that: a) the dynamic in the economy is given by the consumers in the income group between 5 and 20 minimum wages; b) in 1980 the Brazilian economy is more linked, more open, and uses more capital as compared to 1975; and c) the sectoral strategies - showing that the all the economic problems can not be solved with only one kind of economic policy - show different impacts on production, imports, wages, and income distribution, indicating the necessity of a mix of economic policies towards the goal of a better economic development.
