Business Registration in Rio de Janeiro: A brief review of the literature

Abstract: Este texto para discussão pretende resumir brevemente a literatura existente sobre a análise do tempo de abertura de negócios no Estado do Rio de Janeiro. Os principais resultados de cada trabalho são apresentados e constata-se em todos eles a inclinação de um elevado tempo para abertura de negócios. Entretanto, é importante observar a impossibilidade de análises comparativas entre os resultados dos estudos, devido a importantes diferenças metodológicas entre eles. This discussion paper intends to provide a short review of the existing literature on the analysis of the length of time taken by entrepreneurs to open their businesses in the State of Rio de Janeiro. The main findings of each study are summarized, and although it is impossible to strictly compare the results of such studies because of important methodological differences, all of them reach the same conclusion: that the length of time is sizable.
