The paradigm of the entrepreneur in a liberal society, between prudence and risk-innovation: On the Einaudian parable of the 'Principe Mercante'

Paolo Silvestri ()

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

English Abstract: The article has two objectives: 1) to shed light on an unknown aspect of Einaudi's thought: the existence of a 'narrative' paradigm of entrepreneur; 2) show how and why this paradigm: a) must be placed in the context of the broader reflection of Einaudi on good government and open society, b) stands in a fruitful tension between prudence and risk-innovation, both possible only in an institutional-liberal framework. Therefore, entrepreneurship and, in general, initiatives that are open to risk become a figure of freedom.
