Abstract:
Green Revolution was at its core a sort of technological response to the global food shortages that erupted out of the Second World War and claimed large chunks of population. It India it has its root in the food crisis which engulfed the nation in the very beginning of its journey as an independent nation. Using Normalised Difference Vegetation Index images of Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer satellite dataset this study tends to map the changes in spatial extent of irrigated and rainfed cropped areas after the onset of green revolution. The result of the study shows an eastward extension of the irrigated agriculture as well as newer areas in central India coming under the ambit of irrigated agriculture.
