Life satisfaction in Nations

Ruut Veenhoven

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: Comparative research on life satisfaction in nations shows links with several things policymakers can improve, such as material affluence, freedom and good governance. At first sight social security does also go with greater happiness but the correlation disappears when wealth of the nation is controlled. Comparison over the years 1990-2005 does not show a clear effect on average happiness of reduction or expansion of social security expenses.
