Monetary Policy in an Islamic Framework

Abstract:
In orders to understand the role of monetary policies in treating inflation within an Islamic economic system, the paper starts with a profile of forms money, followed by a quick comparison between the structures of the banking system in both conventional and Islamic economies and then, it discusses the question of price stability, and the imperative to maintain it. The last two parts relates the levels of economic activity in both conventional and Islamic economies to changes in the money supply and discusses the role of monetary policies in achieving price stability. Finally, the paper concludes with a number of findings and recommendations.
