Last mile problem – results of on-line stores and customers research

Abstract: This article presents the last mile problem occurring in e-commerce. In the first part of the article we discusses the area of delivery to the customer. Next, we present the causes of the last mile problem, and we characterize the costs of dealing with this issue. In the next part the classification methods to solve the last mile problem are presented, including the solutions available in Poland. The next part of the article presents the results of research carried out in 480 Polish online stores concerning the lead time and shipping forms. The last part of the article presents the survey results of online shoppers, addressing the problems of goods delivery, in particular collection delivery points.
