Democracy in Mexico from the result of public policy seen by performance in the development of its states

Abstract: Democracy is a concept that in practice ensures the development of the society. Development is understood as access to goods and services necessary to improve well-being and lead a decent life. The state's role is precisely to put into action policies that allow equal access to development. Inequalities in development reflect the constraints on public policies and also indicate the quality of democracy in the society. Today, democracy depends not only on the will of the government, but also on the participation of civil society. In this paper, we analyze, from a theoretical approach, what is understood as democracy in relation to development. We initiate with a brief review of economic science and its contribution to democracy and this, with public policy. We then examine development indicators in Mexico by federal entities to illustrate the level of inequality. In light of these results, we emphasize the role of civil society in the process of democratizing development to improve welfare.
