Abstract:
The paper presents methods of operational lignite quality control in the German power industry that base on blending on stockpiles with the extensive use of on-line analysers. Comprehensive improvements of mining and transportation machinery systems as well as burning process in power plants have contributed to significant cost reduction of power generation. Further cost savings could be achieved by implementation of advanced computerized methods of mine planning. Due to some conservatism however, they have not been fully utilised by the German mining industry yet.
