Abstract:
The main target of this study is to examine the European Union as a whole and then to further define the economic dimensions of Turkey-European Union relations. In this context, the emphasis is placed on the economic criteria, rather than on the political criteria (the Copenhagen criteria) of the European Union (EU). The study basically consists of four main parts. In the first part, a broad picture about Turkey-EU relations has been put forward. Turkey-EU relations are discussed in detail along with the Customs Union and Maastricht criteria in the second part. In the third and fourth parts, the economic performance of Turkey and the EU countries are compared in a detailed manner. In these parts, the readers will also find an answer in response to the question of "what happens if the right to free movement is given to Turkey" that is on the agenda of the EU.
