Abstract:
In this work, a historical recount is made, decade by decade, of the main milestones and policies that allowed South Korea to achieve its economic development in the second half of the 20th century (1953-1997), how did South Korea achieve it? We will see that, in the initial stages of this process, the Korean State played a vital role, by fostering certain strategic sectors and implementing a set of pragmatic economic policies, depending on the specific circumstances and economic conjuncture. All these public policies and efforts of the private sector had as consequence the creation of a modern and diversified economic structure. The Korean society always had in mind one target: to maximize the economic growth of South Korea.
