Bank Deposit Insurance and EMU

Abstract: Deposit insurance is designed to preserve the stability of the banking system. This function is reinforced by the process of financial globalization. It is therefore necessary to imagine a specific system of deposit insurance for the future European monetary union. This article, referring to the recent literature on the subject, tries to propose some principles of organization and functioning for a deposit insurance properly community.
