The Euro as an International Currency

Panayota Leandros

MPRA Paper from University Library of Munich, Germany

Abstract: In world currency markets, the emergence of the euro has not yet changed the relative position of the old European currencies to the US dollar and the Japanese yen. This article attempts to answer whether Europeans want the euro to become an international currency, whether the euro able to occupy such a position, and if the euro could acquire international status would this then contribute to improving the stability of the international monetary system?
