Analysis of demand characteristics for transport and communication in Spain from 1980 to 2015

Abstract: This paper investigates the characteristics of the demand for transport and communication in Spain in a period of 36 years. The period considered covers relevant events, such as the starting of democracy and the recent crisis in 2008. Transport and communication demand is a significant indicator of the development and welfare of a society. The evolution of demand is analysed with the direct characterization of the data available. Besides, different models for representation of consumer preferences are checked in order to determine the relationship between the different products considered. The study includes the results of the different elasticities obtained with the model that best fit with the data.
