Abstract:
Fertility in Ecuador has characterized by a constant decrease since ’70. Focusing on the drop of the total fertility rate, it reached the replacement level fertility, generating new dynamics for Ecuador. Data provided by the Survey “ENSANUT 2018” highlight a polarization between two groups. The first group able to control his fertility in an effective manner and the other group still characterized by traditional reproductive patterns. Historical analyses show a heterogeneous effect related with health policies implemented in Ecuador during the last few years. These policies are “ENIPLA” and “Plan Familia”. Although different levels of fertility remain among groups belonging to Ecuadorian society, data highlight a reduction of the gap for the majority of them
