Abstract:
Reducing reliance on fossil fuels in the generation of electricity through supporting wind turbines, solar cells and other renewable technologies has been a key objective of the European Union (EU) for more than a decade. Between 2004 and 2013, the largest 19 European countries more than doubled their renewable output but concerns have been raised about its affordability.
