Generalising from Case Studies: The Sixty Reports of the UK Price Commission
Tim Hazledine
Working Paper from Economics Department, Queen's University
Abstract:
Sixty case studies of pricing behaviour of the UK Price Commission between 1977-79 are used to evaluate models of market structure, conduct and performance. The main conclusions are: a) the oligopoly problem is not an important factor in market behaviour; b) non-competitive practices are common, even in atomistic markets.
