Abstract:
What are the causes of the appropriation of vegetal resources and its consequences on economic development? The formation of the innovation potential of multinational firms is so costly that the appropriation of the inventions stemming from it and of the resources it includes is fundamental. This explains their role in the extension and the strengthening of intellectual property rights. However, depriving developing countries from their vegetal resources may hinder all strategy of endogenous development. Alternative solutions, such as collective property rights do not give satisfying answers. A more systemic approach of innovation is needed.
