Abstract: Dix années d’enquête sur la création d’entreprises sont résumées dans ce document. Entre 1993 et 2003, en partant du concept du capital social (capital-financier, capital-connaissances et capitalrelations), quatre enquêtes ont été menées à Dunkerque. L’objectif était de déterminer les raisons qui ont conduit ces individus à créer leur entreprise (par vocation ou par contrainte ?). Quel que soit le motif, la création d’entreprise reste cependant une expérience solitaire. En dépit de la multiplication des aides à la création d’entreprises. L’entrepreneur finance son entreprise à partir de ses propres fonds et/ou de ses proches. In this paper, we present 10 years of research on entrepreneurship. Between 1993 and 2003, four investigations based on the concept of « social capital » (financial capital, knowledge capital and relationship capital) were led in Dunkirk. Why to create a business? Vocation or necessity? Whatever the aim, the entrepreneur is in fact alone. He finances himself his enterprise despite the numerous public supports.
