Abstract: We present digitized data of the Federal Reserve System’s weekly balance sheet from 1942- 1975 for the first time. Following a brief account of the central bank during this period, we analyze the composition and trends of Federal Reserve assets and liabilities, with particular emphasis on how they were affected by significant events during the period.
