Regional and Demographic Determinants of Poverty in Brazil

Abstract: We apply different decomposition techniques to assess the role of demographic and geographical variables in explaining income inequality in Brazil, following Ravallion and Wodon (1999). Since we have a larger number of observations, we were able to estimate regressions for each state, improving on the results of both studies.
