Abstract:
This paper is situate in that contemporary psychoanalytic orientation that emphasizes the two-sided character of therapeutic relationship and pays attention to the psychoanalyst's feelings and to their effects on the therapy. Starting with the concept of the artificial quality of analytic setting, the following aspects will be discussed: the analyst's isolation, the frustration of the natural tendency to help, difficulties in coping with negative countertransference, mental pain derived from empathizing with patient's mental pain.
