Abstract:
The purpose of the paper lies in presenting certain aspects regarding the organization of the central nervous system. The nervous system accomplishes three functions: - external = adjustment to the environment; - internal = regulation of all the systems in the human body - central = establishing some personal ways of processing the information The external function is carried out by analyzers: olfactive, optical, hearing, vestibular, taste, tegumentary and kinesthetic. The internal function is accomplished by the vegetative nervous system-sympathetic and parasympathetic-existing, at the same time, the possibility of its voluntary change. The central function is peculiar to each individual. The cortex is the place where information, memory, thinking, correlations are processed. 90% of the cortex is of neocortex type and 10% is of paleocortex and archicortex type. The old part of the cortex - the limbic system - coordinates the alimentary, sexual, children’s care behavior, in other words the species perpetuance. It also has an essential role in homeostasis, memory, somatic and vegetative way of conveying emotions. Limbic system represents an entity which could be compared with an active „buffer” which, on one hand, stores the experience regarding man’s evolution and, on the other hand, intervenes actively in managing the external, internal and central functions of the nervous system. Human being, throughout his/her life, carries out an ongoing process of adjustment and learning. Current performances would not be possible without the species’ knowledge. The entire organization of the nervous system illustrates thousands of generations involved in developing different nervous structures. These considerations reveal the importance of knowing and understanding neuroanatomy in psychology field and other neurosciences approach.
