Abstract:
This study’s goal is to underline the role of the cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy and relaxation in the treatment of anxiety disorders, based on a case study on a patient diagnosed with generalized anxiety and panic attacks. Chapter 1 includes an overview of the theoretic background on anxiety disorders, as well as a detailed presentation of the panic attack symptoms. Chapter 2 addresses the concept of psychotherapy with an emphasis on the cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy and the psychotherapeutical relation seen as cooperation between the protagonists, whereas chapter 3 presents a series of elements specific to relaxation. Chapter 4 is dedicated to the cognitive-behavioral therapy approach in a case study. The case presentation contains general data on the patient, it’s life, the reasons for the psichotherapeutical demarche, the relations within the family, the history of the disorder, data on the positive and differential diagnosis as well as the psychopharmacological intervention. This chapter also presents the psychotherapeutical intervention with quotations from the patient – psychotherapist dialogues, i.e. the transcript of 5 sessions and the therapeutical plan to be followed by the therapist. The last part of the study presents a series of personal thoughts on this first experience as a psychotherapist, the difficulties encountered as well as a series of personal conclusions on the psychotherapeutical demarche.
