Abstract: This paper work describes the advantages and opportunities that Equine Facilitated Therapy brings to the field of psychotherapy. The human – animal bond it is something hard to describe, but that has a lot of positive results in the improvement and development of a human being. Animal Assisted Therapy with horses (Equine Facilitated Therapy) offers many unique aspects that are not available with smaller animals. The use of horses within a therapeutic setting falls under four broad categories: Hippotherapy, Riding Therapy, Riding for rehabilitation and Vaulting. Because the goals for each type of riding therapy differ, the selection of the proper horse for each activity is very important. As with all types of Animal Assisted Activities and Animal Assisted Therapy, the personality of the animal is a key component to successful therapy. To help ensure a positive experience for the rider and the horse, care should be taken to select a therapy horse that is patient and gentle. Also a good fit should be made between the individual horse’s temperament and abilities and the needs of the rider. Horses can be directly used to improve physical skills more than any other therapy animal. In addition to physical skills, clients can learn cognitive and social skills with the help of Equine Facilitated Therapy. I hope with the help of this paper to show a broad perspective of this type of therapy and the important benefits that Equine Facilitated Therapy brings.
