Emigration phenomenon in Romania has been increasing since the falling of communist regime in 1989. The interest for this phenomenon has been growing, both from the socio-political and the economical points of view. An overhaul about psychological factors involved in emigrants’ adaptation had been oversight in the last years. The purpose of the present study is to analyze Romanian emigrants’ difficulties in psychological adjustment process and to show the benefits of cognitive-behavioral psychotherapeutic approaches along with relaxation techniques. The emigrants self-evaluated the variables involved in adaptation process, by comparing various periods, starting with the moment of emigration decision up to moment of the research. Psychotherapeutically intervention, in this case, allowed us to analyse adaptation process stages. During the psychotherapeutic sessions, we identified various ways to relate to themselves and to the external environment, which eased or complicated the adaptation process. Understanding their ineffective ways to approach themselves and the others, along with a good therapeutic relationship, drive the symptoms to decrease, help clients to gain a new positive life perspective, help them to take upon themselves, in a higher degree, the decision of emigration (they tended to considered that it was driven by socio-economical factors mainly), facilitate a better usage of their personal resources and finding new ways to evaluate the situations that previously threatened their equilibrium. As a final note, the therapeutic relationship was a key factor in the psychotherapeutic processes. The quality of the relationship but more over the usage of their mother language enhanced the whole process. The emigrants approach to their native country was extended to the therapist and influenced therapeutic change.
