Abstract: The growing demand of school graduates for secondary vocational education. Choosing an educational path after graduation plays an important role in everyone's life. However, this choice does not always depend only on the interests and abilities of the student. In many cases, the socio-economic situation of the family becomes a determining factor when making a decision. The relevance of the study is to substantiate the motives and factors influencing the choice of post-secondary education by young people in the system of secondary vocational education. The subject of the study are students of professional educational organizations. The purpose of the work is to analyze the factors influencing the educational trajectories of school graduates. Objectives of the study: assessment of the socio-economic status of the parent household; analysis of the motives for choosing education in the SPO system. The paper presents the results of the analysis of educational practices in the system of secondary vocational education and the motives for this choice. The main research method was a sociological study devoted to the study of educational tracks of young people, conducted in three regions differentiated by the level of socio-economic development. The main conclusions of the study: the resource potential of parental households, especially in material and social terms, contributes to the expansion of the zone of career optimism of graduates; almost 20% of school graduates had little idea where they would study next; the main reasons for preferring the level of secondary rather than higher professional education are the unwillingness to prepare and take the Unified State Exam, lack of interest in studying in high school and university, the desire to start a career earlier. It is recommended to use it in the work of regional education management bodies in terms of improving the mechanisms of career guidance work with young people and making the necessary management decisions in the field of vocational education at the level of the region and the educational organization. The scientific novelty of the study is to identify and substantiate the main factors influencing the choice of post-secondary education. The practical significance of the work is determined by the possibility of using the data obtained in the development of various mechanisms for designing pro-orientation measures at the regional level; development of forecasting mechanisms in the management system of secondary vocational education.
