Abstract:
The legislative package for Structural Funds (2007-2013) introduced Regulation 1082/2006 establishing a new legal instrument for territorial cooperation: the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC). EGTC is a European instrument enabling regional and local authorities from different Member States to set up cooperation structures with a legal personality. EGTCs can facilitate and promote cross-border, trans-national and interregional cooperation, with or without a financial contribution from the EU, and can offer a new approach for multi-level governance.
