Abstract: Tribals have always been identified by their distinct cultural heritage and hypothesized to have different demographic outcomes as compared to other social groups due to their much gender egalitarian social set up. The present paper is a preliminary understanding that attempts to explore and bring a level of understanding of the tribal demographic behavior. With these introductory insights from the field, the study tries comprehending socio-cultural background acting behind fertility as a demographic outcome among three tribal communities of Jharkhand.
