Revisiting India’s SEZs Policy

Abstract: This paper investigates the actual realizations of the SEZs policy as against its promises and also explores how far the policy has equipped itself to the changing landscape of international trade. The exercise carried out here indicates that the performances of SEZs are far below the initial promises. Much of this is attributed to flaws in doing business within the SEZs structure. Though the government has taken the needed steps in ensuring a business- friendly atmosphere within the SEZ structure, there again we find a gap between the government’s intentions and the facts on the ground.
