Abstract: This paper aims to examine the role of civic activism in urban waste management in Bengaluru city. It explores the present status of waste management in the city and civic involvement in improving the city environment by gradually turning it into an environmental movement. Lately, civic groups have played a significant role in community interests where the ecology and environment are central concerns. Given this backdrop, this paper documents initiatives taken by environment activists and their partnerships with the city corporation in promoting effective governance, specifically in managing the waste of the city. Furthermore, the paper also examines how the groups negotiate with the government and other agencies for the adaptation of sustainable initiatives and policies to manage the urban waste in the city.
