Abstract:
This paper deals with violence, ritual and fight for survival presented in Mel Gipson?s movie Apocalypto. The main point is to present and explain the connection between these three elements presented in this movie in a specific way. Namely, the apocalyptic way of thinking has influenced the presentation of history and important historical, cultural and social changes, and it has been an important aspect in Gipson?s religious orientation. As a traditionalist Catholic, Gipson is revealing the way in which physical and spiritual salvation can be attained. In particular, he is bringing to attention the paradox of human responsibility and freedom and God?s sovereignty.
